Blizzard Entertainment, the makers of World of Warcraft, donated $1.1 million to The Make-A-Wish Foundation on Tuesday. Mike Morhaime, Blizzard CEO, handed the $1.11 million check to the foundation on Tuesday at Blizzard’s private campus in Orange County, California.
Many children in the local Make-A-Wish program were invited to attend the brief ceremony and play Blizzard’s Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3.
"This donation also reflects the spirit and generosity of our players,” Mike Morhaime said. “Their enthusiasm for World of Warcraft and for supporting a good cause made this possible.”
WoW users could buy a Pandaren Monk, one of the many virtual pets that can accompany players in World of Warcraft from Nov. 4 to Dec. 31. The Monk sold for $10, half of which was donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which means about 222,000 players purchased the pet.
Mike Morhaime stated that “We've had a long relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and we're proud to support the priceless work they do for children."
