World of Warcraft Interview,Randy Jordan

World of warcraft workers updated the World of Warcraft five-year-anniversary site in order to bring you an interview with Randy Jordan, who is the co-host of the popular podcast The Instance and the leader of Alea Iacta Est, the guild that formed around its listeners.

Alea Iacta Est is Latin word means "The die has been cast." In order to get most prestige points, players take on the role of Caesar and compete. This accures by clever placement of his/her eight dice, which are placed on five different buildings.New provinces can be conquered at the Castrum (barracks), while at the Forum Romanum, patricians can be recruited so as to be sent to those provinces. At the Senatus, cards are the bonuses if you can won, which can be kept secret until the end of the game. The Templum awards prestige points directly from the Goddess Fortuna. One who cannot win any of these will end the the round at the Latrina, where it provides its owner with a “repete!” chip. That can be used to re-roll dice or can be traded in two-to-one for prestige points at the end of the game. Each building includes special rules as to show how the dice can be placed and allow many tactical possibilities with any roll of the dice.

We asked Randy Jordan about his experiences with World of Warcraft over the last five years. He said that he operated a guild with more than 6,300 characters, and he called to be the co-host of one of the most popular World of Warcraft-themed podcasts out there. Here we pick up several questions and answers from interviw:

What originally brought you to World of Warcraft?

It starts with Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo for me. In particular, StarCraft consumed several hundred hours of my leisure time in the late 1990s, and Diablo II did the same in the early 2000s. I was still an avid player of Diablo II in 2005 when I was brought into playing World of Warcraft by co-workers who had guilded up and were determined to overcome the raid content. I immediately found myself promoted to guild leader of our small leveling guild, and we spent most of 2006 raiding every Friday night with 40 people learning the huge Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and Ahn'Qiraj instances. There's nothing in all of entertainment that compares to going home after work on a Friday afternoon, hooking up online with 39 friends, and battling an elemental lord who happens to be the master of all fire elementals while he screams "DIE, INSECT!", "BY FIRE BE PURGED!", and "TASTE THE FLAMES OF SULFURON!".

At the same time, I got to know [The Instance creator and co-host] Scott Johnson and became integrated into The Instance podcast and the amazing community of players that surrounds it.

What has your gameplay focus been over the last five years? How did it change, if at all, as the game has evolved?

We started with Alliance characters on Frostwolf-US, which was more of a coin flip than anything, and regretted it somewhat when it came to PvP, as there used to be long waits for Alliance players to get into Battlegrounds against the greatly outnumbered Horde. On the other hand, my biggest focus in the game for years was the Auction House, market speculation, and earning gold, so playing in the more populated faction on a very populous realm was a lot of fun.

I've always been drawn to a broad mix of the various aspects of the game, and the improvements over the years have minimized the time I feel I have to spend in order to be successful in as many play styles as possible. For example, it's much easier to make the gold required to raid each week than it used to be, so I spend less time squeezing funds out of the Auction House than I used to.
